Clark Gable Divorce Papers from Wife Josephine Dillon. Sad is the story of Josephine Dillon, a director and acting coach of the Roaring '20s who became the sponsor of an aspiring young actor named Clark Gable. She trained him in dramatics, groomed him, paid for his dental work, and married Gable in Los Angeles in December of 1924 (their marriage certificate is also included in this auction); she was 40 and he was 23. These divorce papers document the marriage's rapid failure. Included are the two-page Complaint for Divorce summons sent to Gable, dated September 1926, including Josephine's reason for this action; the Final Judgement of Divorce Paper, dated April 1, 1930, signed by the county clerk deputy and bearing the stamped seal of Superior Court of Los Angeles County; and a letter to Gable in New York, dated May 2, 1930, regarding the final divorce decree and signed Coudert Brothers (obviously a legal contact). Thus ended the first of Gable's five marriages. Josephine Dillon, who never remarried, went on to coach such stars as Errol Flynn and Cary Grant and died in 1971 -- 11 years after Gable had died -- living in a home Gable allegedly had left her in his will. Intriguing insight into Hollywood's "King," the documents are in Very Good to Excellent condition.
