Carole Lombard Scripts - No One Man and Sinners in the Sun. The blonde and beautiful Carole Lombard achieved her major legend as a glorious screwball comedienne, the sassy real-life wife of Clark Gable and a tragic victim in a 1942 plane crash after a tour of selling war bonds. In 1932, however, she was still a cinema work-in-progress, under contract to Paramount and starring in sex melodramas -- such as these long-forgotten sudsers. The No One Man script, dated January 4, 1932, is the censorship dialogue script for a film in which Carole survived wastrel spouse Ricardo Cortez to wed subdue doctor Paul Lukas. She proclaims in her final reel wisdom, "The one hundred percent man or woman doesn't exist. We're all sixty and seventy-five per centers. And love makes up the difference." Also included is the first draft dated January 14, 1942, for Sinners in the Sun (originally titled The Beachcomber ), wherein Carole forsakes true love Chester Morris to become a mistress -- and almost a suicide. (In the final film, Carole's character was named Doris; in this script, her name is Muffet.) Both scripts bear studio stamps on the cover and the Sinners in the Sun draft is marked in pencil "Incomplete." Vivid examples of early Lombard and pre-Code Hollywood, in Very Good condition.
