Description

Black Sunday (Paramount, 1977), Second Draft Script by Ernest Lehman and Ken Ross with Bound-In Storyboards. Vintage original Second Draft screenplay, dated November 5, 1975, by Ernest Lehman and Ken Ross from the novel by Thomas Harris. Starring Robert Shaw, Bruce Dern, Marthe Keller, Fritz Weaver, Terry Bradshaw and John Frankenheimer, and directed by Frankenheimer as well. Comprised of (148) all-white studio-mimeo pages (as paginated), bound and bradded in studio-printed, graphic illustrated wraps, stamped script number "13", and marked for uncredited crew member "G. Weaver". Includes (17) mimeo storyboards on heavier paper bound in at matching script progressions, all concerning the climactic terrorist action near the end of the film. Inspired in spirit by the Palestinian attack on Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics, the story here again concerns the same Palestinian militant group, "The Black September Organization", methodically planning an epic terrorist action at the Super Bowl. In pre-release test screenings, this film received some of the highest rating scores ever for Paramount, who banked on it becoming the blockbuster of the year, without realizing a little piece of childish space-battle hokum called "Star Wars" would take virtually all of 1977's glory, and box-office receipts. Wraps exhibit very minor age toning and production handling, and interior remains fresh and crisp. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
