Billy Wilder Folder of Correspondence to Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller Regarding Turmoil on the Set of Some Like It Hot. This unique 19-page documentation of the countless problems created by Marilyn Monroe on the set of Billy Wilder's classic 1959 comedy Some Like It Hot is an absolute must for the Marilyn collector. During production of the film, Monroe was married to playwright Arthur Miller, to whom the majority of these "Straight Telegram" pages are addressed. Monroe's unprofessional behavior and habitual tardiness on the set prompted Wilder to quote publicly about the situation, an incident that angered Miller, who accused the director of creating a harsh environment that precipitated the pregnant Marilyn's subsequent miscarriage. The correspondence, primarily typed yellow sheets used in the preparation of actual telegrams, includes signed letters and memos sent to and from Wilder, Miller, and journalist Joe Hyams, dated 1958-59, as well as a mimeograph report of a production meeting in which the handling of Monroe is discussed. All pages are two-hole punched in top margin, and in Very Good to Fine condition with some wear, soiling, and age toning. From the Billy Wilder Archive. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA.
