Description

Billy Wilder Double Indemnity Production Archive, Including Script with Alternate Ending. This is a unique, magnificent lot from the production many consider the Granddaddy of film noir, Billy Wilder's brooding 1944 Paramount masterpiece Double Indemnity starring Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, and Edward G. Robinson (in one of his finest performances as Keyes, the wily insurance investigator). These stunning noir materials include a rare copy of a October 10, 1935, letter, from PCA administrator Joseph I. Breen to Louis B. Mayer, a rare dialogue continuity script with the original ending of the movie, notes regarding gas chamber details from the original ending, typescripts and yellow copies of Raymond Chandler and Billy Wilder's original 1943 story treatment, a production and correspondence file, review file, and James M. Cain's "Author's Suggested Treatment" notes. In Very Good to Fine condition with some wear, age toning, small tears, and staining. From the Billy Wilder Archive.
