Audie Murphy Related - John Horton's Production File for To Hell and Back (1955). A fascinating, richly comprehensive file on the production of To Hell and Back, the 1955 film based on the book by Audie Murphy, the most-decorated U.S. soldier of World War II and the star of the movie. This was the personal copy of John Horton who was a liaison between Washington D.C. and Hollywood for many military films; he was also Murphy's California neighbor, and he spearheaded the arrangements between Universal Studios and the military for this production. The file, over 190 pages, covers everything -- selection of locations, acquisition of weapons, review of the script by the Army and by the Secretary of Defense, choice of a technical advisor, and much more. Tucked into the file by Horton is a Time magazine obituary of Murphy (who died in a plane crash in 1971) as well as a Washington, D.C. Evening Star newspaper page with a picture taken at Murphy's funeral at Arlington National Cemetery. Hollywood pre-production and research for To Hell and Back was meticulous, and this amazing file documents every bit of it. Excellent condition.
