An Orson Welles Script with Another Different Ending from "The Magnificent Ambersons." RKO Radio Pictures, 1942. A photocopied copy, no covers, no authorship noted, undated, appearing to be a 'Dialogue Cutting Continuity' script, 89 pages; included with a letter from Beatrice Welles indicating she consigned this lot directly to Heritage Auctions.
    14" x 8 1/2"

Appearing to be a Xerox copy made in the 1960s (or later) for Welles' own use, this script has yet another ending from that of the finished version of the film -- it has "Eugene" [Joseph Cotten] saying to "Fanny" [Agnes Moorehead] "...I'd been true at last to my true love..." while Fanny "glances at Eugene smiling grimly" and then stands "looking after him" as he presumably exits from her life forever, Fanny finally realizing that he never did and never will love her. This is most likely the ending Welles truly wanted -- instead, the one we see in the film today has Eugene and Fanny happily walking out of the hospital with all their issues seemingly resolved!
