An Orson Welles 'Record of Material' Binder from The Mercury Theatre, 1941. A large black three-ring binder filled with approximately 150 sheets titled "Record of Material / Orson Welles / Mercury Theatre on the Air," with each sheet having detailed typed notes of stories the theatre was considering including the name of the novel (or short story, play, or radio broadcast), the author, a synopsis, casting choices (like Carole Lombard, Ginger Rogers, John Barrymore, Cedric Hardwicke, etc.) and remarks from Welles like "Mr. Welles liked the idea / Mr. Welles will read / Definitely to be made / Welles didn't like script," etc. -- a fascinating look at what Welles & Co. were brainstorming about in the year 1941 such as John Fante's "Ask the Dust," Ernest Hemingway's "A Farewell to Arms" and countless other stories by authors such as Hans Christian Andersen, Sherwood Anderson, Honore de Balzac, Edna Ferber, O. Henry, Ring Lardner, Guy de Maupassant, Edgar Allen Poe, Booth Tarkington, H.G. Wells, Oscar Wilde, and Thornton Wilder to name a few; 1941 was evidently a very busy year for Welles as he was also right in the middle of all his work on "Citizen Kane;" included with a letter from Beatrice Welles indicating she consigned this lot directly to Heritage Auctions.
    Binder: 11 1/2" x 13"; Individual Sheets: 8 1/2" x 11"
