An Orson Welles Personally-Owned Scrapbook, 1939. From the actor's own files; approximately 50 pages, housed in a black leather binder, filled with newspaper clippings, magazine articles, advertisements, and programs all related to Welles' career and personal life in 1939, just as he was arriving in Hollywood and before he made his magnum opus, "Citizen Kane" in 1941; articles cover subjects such as the actor's radio shows (including many clippings about the notorious and infamous radio broadcast, "The War of the Worlds," which took place 75 years ago this October), Broadway plays such as "Macbeth" and "Business Before Pleasure" and Hollywood films such as "Twentieth Century" among countless others as the actor was quite prolific at this time; overall, a rare and comprehensive collection of fantastic information about Welles -- virtually all these clippings are not available anywhere else. (Please note all the pages of the scrapbook are extremely brittle due to age and the front and back covers are somewhat tattered, but the clippings are still intact.)
    14" x 13" x 2"

This scrapbook was consigned directly to Heritage Auctions by Beatrice Welles, daughter of Orson Welles and his third wife, Paola Mori; included is a Letter of Provenance about this piece signed by Ms. Welles.
