An Orson Welles Accounting Ledger from The Mercury Theatre, 1937-1939. Oversized, black and maroon leather cover, label on front has annotation handwritten in black fountain pen ink reading "Mercury Theatre, Inc. #8," inside pages are filled with further entries handwritten in black fountain pen ink regarding "Performers" salaries (but titles of plays aren't noted) as well as those of "Stage Hands, Musicians" and "Administrative," some famous names listed (other than Orson Welles who appears throughout) include (in alphabetical order): Edith Barrett, Joseph Cotten, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Arlene Francis, Alice Frost, Martin Gabel, John Houseman, Phyllis Joyce, Norman Lloyd, Edmund O'Brien, Vincent Price, and Mary Wickes, among many others who were part of this most celebrated theatre troupe founded by Welles and John Houseman in New York City in 1937; included with a letter from Beatrice Welles indicating she consigned this lot directly to Heritage Auctions.
