Description
A Time to Kill (Warner Bros., 1996), Donald Sutherland's Personal Scene Script with Extensive Character Notes. Donald Sutherland's personal second draft scene script from the film adaptation of John Grisham's A Time to Kill, featuring extensive handwritten notes by the acclaimed actor for his role as Lucien Wilbanks-the eccentric, disbarred attorney who mentors Jake Brigance (Matthew McConaughey). Housed in a plastic Duraclip folder with a clear cover, the script includes only the scenes involving Sutherland's character. The script is heavily annotated in Sutherland's distinctive cursive writing, offering deep insight into his character preparation. Notes include pronunciation guidance to capture a Mississippi accent, revised dialogue (such as an entirely rewritten monologue in scene 34), questions about character motivation ("what do I think"), word substitutions (e.g., "Godless" changed to "Godforsaken"), and scene directions ("get up to get another bottle"). Some annotations are photocopied from a previous draft, while many are freshly written in ballpoint pen, fine-line marker, and other inks. A fascinating insight into how Sutherland prepared to play his roles, made choices in various scenes, and the amount of freedom that directors like Joel Schumacher allowed the veteran actor to have within his roles, particularly during his 1990s renaissance. Pages exhibit fading, edge wear, bumped corners, and light yellowing. Comes with a Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
