Description

A Massive and Important Archive of Paperwork Relating to "Cleopatra." 20th Century Fox, 1963. From the files of production designer John DeCuir who won an Academy Award for 'Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Color' for this film, all housed in one banker's box, including hundreds of pieces of paperwork (some dated as early as 1960) relating to the production of this movie that, according to lore, bankrupted Twentieth Century Fox such as: press releases, interoffice memos, budgets, telegrams, research magazines and materials, expense reports, receipts (from places in Los Angeles, London, Rome, Cairo, etc.), set continuity documents, meeting minutes, construction estimates, handwritten letters to DeCuir from colleagues, and maps, among many other documents, all outlining the escalating costs of this production that was quickly getting out out of control; none of this paperwork has ever been seen so there is important information here that has been lost to history until now; also included are a number of fabric swatches (and notes about them) that were used on set for various purposes -- overall, a truly fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at one of the most infamous productions in all of Hollywood film history; please note our catalogue illustration and description do not do justice to this lot. It really must be seen in person to appreciate its scope and importance.
Various Sizes (all contained in one banker's box)
