Description

A Marilyn Monroe Set of Documents Related to "The Prince and the Showgirl." Warner Bros., 1957. The first a one-page note typed on 'Marilyn Monroe Production, Inc.' letterhead, dated "2 July 1956," to "Messrs. L.O.P.," reading in part "...we make / available the services of Miss Marilyn Monroe to you" and further noting that Milton Greene's credit needed to be "Executive Producer," sadly, a detail that would contribute to the end of MM's professional and personal relationship with him; the second a two-page telegram dictation typed on white paper, undated but likely early 1957, from Monroe to "Jack W. / WB Stu / Burbank, Cal" outlining a number of legitimate complaints the star had about the poor editing of the film including her funny mention of "coronation is as long as / before if not longer and story gets lost in it stop American / audiences are not as moved by stained glass windows as British / are and we threaten them with boredom stop" among other like insights; had Jack Warner taken Monroe's suggestions seriously, it would have been a much better film.
