A Mae West Group of Address Books, 1940s-1970s. Six total (though one is just the loose-leaf pages), ranging in date from the 1940s to the 1970s, entries are handwritten in numerous colors of ink or pencil either by West herself or by various secretaries, some entries typed, many pages were used as a notepad and/or datebook as information is penned throughout (which doesn't relate to telephone numbers or street addresses); not surprisingly, there are very few fellow actors listed - West didn't have movie star friends as she had to be the biggest and most fabulous personality in the relationship; nonetheless, a few celebrated names do appear throughout the books including (in alphabetical order): Diane Arbus, Army Archerd, Travis Banton, Billy Barton, Louise Beavers, Melvin Belli, George Cukor, W.C. Fields, Jerry Giesler, Joel Gray, Edith Head, Hedda Hopper, Ross Hunter, Jennifer Jones, Kenneth Kendall, Irene Mayer, Roddy McDowall, Cole Porter, and Cobina Wright, among a few others; also, countless places of business that West patronized appear including (in alphabetical order): The Beverly Hills Hotel, The Brown Derby, Bullock's Wilshire, Capitol Records, Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, Chasen's, Chateau Marmont, J.W. Robinson Co., I. Magnin, Max Factor, Pickwick Bookshop, Schwab's Pharmacy, Screen Actors Guild, Western Costume Company, The William Morris Agency, and many others -- overall, a fascinating look at who the star knew and where she went over the course of 30+ years; included with a signed 'Letter of Provenance' from John West, Mae's nephew.
