A James Cagney Annotated Script from "Love Me or Leave Me." Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1955. Yellow covers, no authorship noted, dated "6-18-54," marked "Complete," 111 pages, a number of the actor's penciled annotations (some quite lengthy) about his character appear on a few pages such as "But nothing will work as he felt / his throat locked" and "Artists poets realists / essential need" and "We gobble up facts without looking or / caring" and other odd scribblings that "motivated" the star, there are also notes in another hand, even some in shorthand; this was Cagney's own working copy script for his role of "Martin Snyder" which he gave to his longtime secretary, Nora Helm, for her permanent files; interestingly, Cagney was nominated for a 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' Oscar for this work, though his co-star Doris Day [as "Ruth Etting"] was not; however, the film did win for 'Best Writing, Motion Picture Story.' (Please note the front cover has a coffee ring stain on the lower margin and a grease stain in the upper right corner; the back cover is missing altogether.)
