    Description

A Clark Gable Massive and Important Employee File from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Including 35+ Documents Signed by Him, 1936-1946. A traditional green office folder, filled to the brim so unable to lay flat now, tab reads "Clark Gable / File 2 / 1936-1946," filled with hundreds of documents (e.g., inter-office memos / contracts / routing slips / graphs / letters / handwritten notes, etc.) all relating to the employment of one of the biggest stars ever on the payroll at MGM -- Mr. Clark Gable! All pieces are two-hole punched on top margin and 'bound in' by a metal clasp (so they can be removed if need be), paperwork relates to typical topics in an actor's life such as film roles, appearances on radio shows, 'use of name' in advertisements and in other films, bonuses, leaves of absence, sick days, vacation days, and the like; a number of Gable's films are referenced like "Test Pilot," "Cain and Mabel," and "Honky Tonk" as are his co-stars like Lana Turner among a few others; numerous contracts are included though none seem to be specifically for films but rather for appearances, advertising, or 'use of name' with over 35 of them being signed by Gable himself in various colors of fountain pen ink (including a kelly green color which he used over and over); many fascinating tidbits and notes about the actor are documented such as days he called in sick, "accidents" he had, "long rest periods" he took, personal appearances he made, etc. -- overall, a comprehensive account of the star's professional (and sometimes personal) life for a ten year span. (Please note no documents related to "Gone With The Wind" are included in this folder as those are being offered in the previous lot.)
    Folder: 15" x 9" x 2 1/2"
