    A Clark Gable Collection of Documents from His Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Employee File Related to His Work on "Gone With The Wind," 1938-1939. Nine total (though three have multiple pages stapled together), all typed except one which is handwritten in pencil, all light blue 'Inter-Office Communication' memo forms depicting the MGM logo, dated from December of 1938 to December of 1939, sent amongst and between executives at the studio to discuss their main star's work on "GWTW" including: 1) a memo dated "5-2-39," reading in part "...his first picture of this year is 'Gone With The Wind' for / which Selznick was charged $16,666.67;" 2) a memo dated "August 29, 1939," reading in part "Increased (Gable's) rate on / Gone With The Wind / $64,000;" 3) a memo dated "October 21, 1939," reading in part "...please advise whether or not the / $58,750.00 should be retained on our books or charged to Selznick;" 4) a memo dated "December 13, 1939," reading in part "Cosgrove and Company can only obtain a total of $55,000.00 / on Clark Gable... / the market on Gable is over- / loaded for aviation indemnity insurance;" 5) a memo dated "December 14, 1939," reading in part "Cosgrove and Company ...able to place $70,000.00 / ...on Clark Gable for the round trip, Los Angeles / to Atlanta, Georgia;" 6) a memo dated "12-15-39," reading in part "This is to advise you that / the above (Gable) left Wednesday, December 13th, for / Atlanta, Ga., to attend the premiere of GONE / WITH THE WIND;" 7) a memo dated "12-7-38," with two related documents stapled to it, reading in part "...we agree to loan / you / the services of Clark Gable in the role of 'Rhett / Butler' in the photoplay entitled GONE WITH THE WIND;" 8) a memo dated "May 20, 1939," with two related documents stapled to it, reading in part "...how (are) we...to handle the $3,000 difference in salary on Clark / Gable while working on Gone With The Wind... / we are paying Gable $7,500...;" and 9) a memo dated "October 26, 1939," with two related documents stapled to it, reading in part "...$58,750.00 Clark Gable-Selznick International / item carried on our books because of the difference..." -- overall, a great archive of paperwork about the behind-the-scenes minutiae of what would become one of the most famous roles in all of film history -- that of "Rhett Butler" as portrayed by Clark Gable!
