Yul Brynner "King Mongkut of Siam" Costume from a Broadway Production of The King and I. (St. James Theater, 1951/Broadway Theater, 1985). Vintage original (2)-piece stage costume including (1) raw red silk jacket with gold bullion thread embroidered paisley pattern, featuring ¾-length sleeves, a short standing collar, and open front closure, and (1) pair of matching traditional Thai wrap pants gathered at the front with a soft-sculpture horn at the snap-closure waist. Worn by Yul Brynner during some of his later stage performances as the King of Siam in the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The King and I. In a career full of signature roles, perhaps no character was as beloved-or as closely associated with Brynner-as his portrayal of King Mongkut, which he performed in an astonishing 4,625 stage appearances over a 30-year span, beginning with the show's Broadway debut in 1951 and continuing through major revivals into the mid-1980s. Costume exhibits wear and age, including fading around the collar and waistband of the pants with additional black stains on the pants. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
