Wonder Woman (Warner Bros. TV, 1975-1979), Lynda Carter "Wonder Woman" Signature Superhero Costume Ensemble. With her signature spin, crime-fighting moves and head-turning figure, Lynda Carter's groundbreaking Wonder Woman careened like a lightning bolt into living rooms across America when the television show bearing her name hit the airwaves in April 1976, propelling a dual image of undeniable beauty and strength into the public eye, forever changing the landscape of pop culture, television, superheroes, and moral justice all at once. But for all of her unwavering moral compassion and flashy moves, it was Wonder Woman's signature bodysuit that became the lasting image from the series and one of the most recognizable costume ensembles of all time - one whose influence stretched not only the network television era, nor just the superhero genre, but across all of pop culture as a singular, undeniable image. Presented here in rare form is a vintage original (6) piece ensemble of Wonder Woman's iconic bodysuit, including (1) corseted leotard with red satin upper bust embellished with metallic gold applique in the shape of an eagle, detailed with bronze and gold-colored bugle beads, integral metallic gold applique belt with golden button loop, blue satin lower embellished with embroidered white star applique patches and bias cut leg openings, interior of bodice with boning and red web waist-strap with top to bottom hook-and-eye closure, (1) iconic golden "Lasso of Truth", (1) matching metallic gold fabric tiara with embroidered red star patch applique detailed with red round faceted faux crystal and bugle bead, with black web straps and Velcro closure retaining internal bias label with illegible faded writing, (1) pair of custom DiFabrizio brand red suede high-heeled boots with white leather stripe detail, (1) pair of golden hammered cuff bracelets with affixed embroidered red stars, and (1) pair of red-painted golden cabochon earrings. Designed by renowned costume designer Donfeld, whose initial illustrations for the series were shot down by producers for being too expensive. He quipped, "Why would we do it it we can't do it right?" The rest was history. This iteration of Wonder Woman's costume represents the finessed version of the ensemble that appeared beginning in Season 2, in which the bustier was made more flexible to allow Carter to perform more stunts, cut lower to highlight her shape, and redesigned around the chest eagle so that there was less gold applique in favor of more red cloth throughout. As well, the number of stars on the bottom of the leotard was also reduced so that they stop just below the hips, and were rearranged in a more symmetrical, starburst pattern. Overall these changes created a more flattering and balanced presentation. Items exhibit expected production wear and age, including discoloration to the leotard, peeling to the tiara where lining is separating from fabric, fading to writing on the internal tiara tag, waistband flaking, flaking to the applique, some loose threads with missing beads, suede discoloration and cracked leather to the boots, and paint-fading to the earrings. Included with the lot is a custom-built mannequin in the likeness of Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, plus a pair of tights for display purposes. In 2019 Profiles in History sold this exact Lynda Carter Wonder Woman ensemble from The Azarian Collection for $132,000. Another Wonder Woman costume with the same accessories sold at public auction in 2025 for $240,500.
