Two Gowns and Two Dresses by Galanos for Amelia Gray Worn and Owned by Edie Adams. Through her boutique, Amelia Gray not only helped to establish Galanos' reputation as a leading designer of the day when Parisian designers were the last word in fashion, but had a personal wardrobe entirely of Galanos designs. And then there is Edie Adams with a collection of well over 100 of his creations. Here we present four early works by Galanos, purchased by Edie Adams through Amelia Gray, first is a black knit halter gown that drapes at the waist with a deep plunging back that is crossed with a thin decorative strap and then falls to the floor in a straight skirt detailed with top stitching at each of the four seams and a front center slit. The second gown is in emerald green textured crepe chiffon, the gathered waist band over the draped and gathered bodice mimicked by the skirt that is gathered and folded over at the front. A low plunging back terminates with a zipper that opens to a full lining. Next is a brown chiffon mini dress, the chiffon sheath with V-neck and side zipper lined in brown satin with multiple brown textured chiffon overlays front and back. The fourth is a beautifully flowing black chiffon calf length dress constructed over a black satin lining. The bodice is draped in black chiffon and flowing from the wide gathered chiffon band at the waist are three layers fluttering in waves at the hem. This elegant collection is in Fine condition with water spots to the front of the brown chiffon dress, but ready to be presented as a collection or worn on the town. Accompanied by a hardcover copy of Edie Adams' autobiography, Sing a Pretty Song. From the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams Estate Archive.
