Two Edie Adams Stage Worn Costumes. Early in Edie Adams' TV career, she was called to ad lib to kill time on live television, and in the process developed a wide array of comedic impersonations from Shirley Temple to Marilyn Monroe. Here we present two costumes with photo matches worn for a four week stint at the Tropicana, just after its 1957 Las Vegas opening, in which she used to advantage her ten-second costume changes between impersonations. The first, a black satin wrap around flapper dress with attached pearl strand was worn for her Helen Kane impersonation, singing "I Wanna Be Loved by You." Another favorite personality she imitated was Marlene Dietrich for which she had multiple costumes. Here we present pieces from her tux costume, including her beaded taffeta top hat, satin cummerbund and beaded raw silk shorts identified as "Miss Edie Adams," waist 25 ½ on an Eaves Costume Co. label. Clearly stage worn while in Fine condition, Edie had a wonderful time hiding behind these personalities, writing in her autobiography about a fan coming up to her husband, Ernie Kovacs, "Ernie, Ernie, you were terrific. And all those beautiful girls, doing impressions were sensational." Accompanied by a hardcover copy of Edie Adams' autobiography, Sing a Pretty Song. From the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams Estate Archive.
