Two Designs by Galanos Worn and Owned by Edie Adams. Paying designer prices for ready-to-wear fashion seems hard to imagine, but that is exactly what Galanos offered to many who considered it an industrious luxury to able to dash in and out of the store with a $1,500 garment plucked off the hanger. And of course the dress must meet a high finishing criteria with couture detailing. This cream-colored long-sleeved calf length dress is a wonderful example of finishing typical of Galanos for Amelia Gray, in a button down design with placket hiding the bound buttons and precisely finished button holes. The design with buttoned flap pockets is meticulously top stitched. The front opens to a finely crafted lining with bound edges. The second item is a circa 1975 floor length coat with a Galanos label in napped black wool, the straight design with two seam pockets and four buttons secured by loops to the underside of the front panel. Contrasting black quilted material at cuffs extends up the underside of the arm, the same material is also used to bind the rounded neck and front edge. The dress and coat are in Very Fine condition, a 1.5" segment of the lining to the right of the top button hole needing to be re-sewn. Accompanied by a hardcover copy of Edie Adams' autobiography, Sing a Pretty Song. From the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams Estate Archive.
