Three Edie Adams Screen-Worn and Stage-Worn Gowns. Always at the cutting edge of fashion, these three dresses from the early 1960s, designed with abstract fabrics were created for Edie Adams by James Galanos, who would become known as one of the great designers of the day as well as a dear friend of Edie's. Each bears his early label Galanos for Amelia Gray. The first two classic 1960s creations were used over a wide time period, appearing in the 1993 TV mini series Tales of the City. The floor length flowing 1960 off the shoulder design with a zigzag hem in black silk crepe is printed in a multi-color bold abstract design. The second piece in the lot is the 1963 floor length knit dress, which was lent to another actress in Tales of the City as Edie no longer had a 23" waist. The top is solid green with an over blouse and sash in a textured green chiffon, while the skirt was knit in vertical stripes of green, orange and cream with a contrasting hem in horizontal stripes. The final dress dress in the lot was worn for her nightclub act at the Venetian Room in the Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco. In an accompanying photo match is Edie in her classic "S" pose, wearing the brown silk weave straight floor length gown printed with cream and black rays. In Very Fine condition, these classic 1960s gowns, created by a design icon for one of the great entertainers of the day, is a treasure waiting to be added to your collection. Accompanied by a hardcover copy of Edie Adams' autobiography, Sing a Pretty Song. From the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams Estate Archive.
