Three Dresses by Galanos for Amelia Gray and One Dress by Ray Aghayan and Bob Mackie For Elizabeth The First Worn and Owned by Edie Adams.
First we present a low waisted black crepe dress that falls just above the knee by the design team of Ray Aghayan and Bob Mackie. The skirt with pleats to either side is finished with a self covered belt with rhinestone buckle and the sleeves are finished at the cuff with inset flaring pleats. The next three pieces are Galanos designs for Amelia Gray ("He has no equal" said a Beverly Hills boutique owner whose name was tied to much of Galanos' early work). The first an orange boucle twill coat dress lined in orange charmeuse, double breasted with stand-up collar, buttoned belt and pocket within the princess seams. Next is a knee length black felted straight sheath with V-neck and top stitched belt which wraps the waist twice securing with a metal ring, additional rings are at the cuff. The fully lined dress closes at back with a zipper. The third Galanos design is a long sleeved red knit A-line dress, the stand up collar rising from a V-detail, princess seams open to pleats front and back and the zipper at center back reveals a full lining. The dresses are in Very Fine condition, and are a wonderful start to a retro wardrobe. Accompanied by a hardcover copy of Edie Adams' autobiography, Sing a Pretty Song. From the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams Estate Archive.
