Three Black Galanos Gowns Owned and Worn by Edie Adams. The black dress is a staple in the closet of any design conscious woman, but to Edie Adams it seemed an art form worth collecting. Here we present three exquisitely detailed floor length black gowns from her personal collection by her dear friend "Jimmy" Galanos. The earliest two are labeled Galanos for Amelia Gray. The first, a heavy wool crepe V-necked straight skirted chiffon lined gown, has a top stitched belt with gold grommets that wraps across the low cut back and is secured with hook and snap. The second, a wool crepe scooped-neck gown lined in chiffon has with spaghetti straps, has a chiffon inset that circles the torso at the midriff leading to a slightly gathered skirt with a pocket in the right side seam. Last is a scoop necked Galanos gown in a textured wool knit lined in charmeuse that has a decorative cut-out under the bust revealing a wool felted insert. In Very Fine condition, with desiccation to the cup insets in two of the gowns that can be easily removed or replaced, these three dresses are beautifully finished and each with that extra "little something" that adding to Edie's collection. Accompanied by a hardcover copy of Edie Adams' autobiography, Sing a Pretty Song. From the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams Estate Archive.
