Star Trek: The Original Series (Paramount, 1966-1969), Malachi Throne "Commodore Mendez" Formal Tunic and Pants from Episode "The Menagerie". Vintage original (2) piece ensemble including (1) Starfleet formal dress tunic constructed of chartreuse green polyblend fabric with metallic gold bullion-threaded ribbon piping on the short-standing collar and running down the length of the front Velcro closure with decorative metallic gold piping at front shoulder seams, adorned with the instantly recognizable array of ornamental triangle ribbons attached with pin backings and arranged in a starburst pattern on the left breast, and retaining internal faded handwritten "Mendez" bias label, and (1) pair of black and silver-sparkle Starfleet duty pants, with flared bellbottoms and zipper and hook-and-eye front closure. Commodore Mendez (Malachi Throne) plays a key role in the two-part Season 1, Episodes 11 and 12, "The Menagerie", in which Spock (Leonard Nimoy) is placed on trial by Mendez and Captain Kirk (William Shatner) following his decision to hijack the Starship Enterprise and return to Talos IV with Captain Pike (Sean Kenney). Items exhibit expected signs of production wear and age, including some toning to the tunic and pulled threads throughout, with 1-triangular ornament detached but present. Pants are production-used from the series though cannot be definitively linked to Mendez. Accompanied by a 2.75" x 4.5" color pencil illustration for arranging the ornamental triangles to the Mendez tunic. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
