Description
Singin' in the Rain (MGM, 1952), Jean Hagen "Lina Lamont" Yellow and Navy Dress. Vintage original 1920s-style drop-waist dress featuring a voluminous mustard yellow stretch nylon bodice with wide dolman sleeves and a banded navy skirt layered with tiers of satin and crepe. The bodice is designed with a high neckline and a navy satin-lined collar reinforced with internal wires to maintain its shape. Faux navy satin-covered buttons, each accented with pink rhinestones, run along the left shoulder and down the sleeve. The sleeve cuffs close with zippers for a fitted look and are richly embellished with four rows of stitched emerald and princess-cut pink rhinestones, bordered by rows of navy bugle beads. This same ornate trim wraps twice around the skirt's waistline, crossing elegantly at the front. The hem of the dress is weighted with small metal inserts sewn into the seams, ensuring the skirt drapes correctly. The left side features snap and hook-and-eye closures that extend from the shoulder down the sleeve, along with a side zipper. Inside, handwritten bias labels read "Jean Hagen" and "1546, $458," accompanied by an "MGM 9 51781" paper laundry tag affixed with a staple. Worn by Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen) in the scene where she barges in to disrupt Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and Kathy Selden's (Debbie Reynolds) recording session-and their budding romance. Upon discovering the studio's plan to dub her voice with Kathy's, Lina flies into a rage and begins plotting her next publicity scheme. Jean Hagen earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her over-the-top performance as the film's antagonist. Exhibits production wear and age, including stress to the shoulder seams. The yellow stretch fabric has holes and small tears throughout. The pink rhinestones exhibit color loss, and there are 2-missing rhinestones on the front of the skirt, with 1-loose rhinestone included separately. Some of the rhinestone embellishments on the buttons are missing.
