Ross Alexander's Costume from A Midsummer Night's Dream. A striking period costume worn by tragic star Ross Alexander (1907-37) in his role of Demetrius in the 1935 adaptation of William Shakespeare's comedy play. That role, along with one in Captain Blood (also in 1935), were highlights of the rising young actor's career. Sadly, he committed suicide at age 29, using the same gun his first wife, Aleta Freel, had used to take her own life with just 13 months earlier. He had been married to his second wife, actress Anne Nagel, for just a few months at the time of his death. For unknown reasons, a United Costumers label bearing actor John Barrymore's name was sewn inside at a later point in time. The costume is in Very Fine condition with minor areas of fraying to silver detailing.
