Nolan Miller Jet Black Beaded Gown Designed for Jane Wyman When Honored by the Arthritis Foundation, 1977. Silk crepe, square and bugle beads; Label: Nolan Miller Couture; Dress Size: 6/8.

Floor-length gown in beaded black silk crepe with a bloused bodice. The bodice has padded shoulders with a wide scooped neckline and low scooped back, with a "V" waist. The back has a center zipper closure, flanked by full-length seams. Wide sleeves gathered at the shoulder taper to the wrist, with a zipper closure. The straight skirt is slightly gathered at the front waist with a center slit that reaches to mid thigh. The neckline and wrists are finished with square black mitered beads, outlined in black bugle beads. The bodice, sleeves and skirt are fully beaded in a tight pattern of bugle beads. The gown is fully lined in black crepe.

Nolan Miller's friendship with actress Jane Wyman spanned several decades, with Nolan designing both costumes and couture for her. This gown, designed by Nolan, was worn by Jane Wyman (1917-2007) in 1977 when she received the Charles B. Harding Award, the highest national award given by The Arthritis Foundation. It was also worn by Cyd Charisse when she was honored by the ballet in Monte Carlo. The gown is in Very Fine condition with some minor bead loss especially along the zipper and inside hem. The dress was brought in at the rear "princess" seams. From the Nolan Miller Collection.
