Description
Mork and Mindy (ABC TV, 1978-1982), Robin Williams "Mork from Ork" Signature-Look Costume Designed by Robert Fuca. Vintage original (5) piece costume designed by Robert Fuca for Robin Williams in his iconic breakout role as Mork in the prime time comedy series Mork and Mindy. Consisting of (1) off-the-rack rainbow-color, long-sleeved crew neck T-shirt bearing product label "Don Meyers Presents/ Fashions Made in Israel by Sabrina/ [size] L" and hand-marked by production, "2"; (1) pair off-the-rack khaki button-fly and self-belted cargo pants with faded internal label "Drill Khaki 1950 Pattern/ 7" and other indecipherable printing; (1) pair of rainbow-patterned stretch suspenders which appear to be bespoke for production (without product label); and (2) unique character-associated custom-made pinback ornaments, with labels "Marika Original". This immediately identifiable, characteristic look ensemble for Williams first appears in season 1, episode #7 "To Tell the Truth", and quite likely appears again in later episodes. The various rainbow-colored costumes throughout the series were a visual extension of Mork's comedic sensibility. As an alien trying to understand human culture, Mork often used humor to navigate awkward social situations. The costume itself was a joke, over-the-top in a way that invited laughter and signified his innocent misunderstanding of Earth's fashion and norms. In sum, the rainbow-colored costume was a key part of what made Mork's character so memorable-reflecting his alien nature, his boundless energy, and his role as a humorous outsider. This costume played a significant role in shaping Robin Williams' lasting legacy in pop culture. Produced by Gary Marshall and written by some of the best comic minds in television, Mork and Mindy was not only a top-rated hit for the duration of its run, it established Robin Williams as a household name for his unique brand of anarchic comedy. Each element of the costume ensemble remains in remarkably-preserved, barely-used condition, with 1- shirt sleeve bearing a tiny production stain, and rainbow colors of the suspenders showing minor age-toning from (30+) years storage. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.Auction Info
