Mae West Beaded Gown Dress from Goin' to Town (1935). By the time Paramount released Mae West's Goin' to Town in the spring of 1935, many expected the newly vigilant Hollywood Production Code -- which Mae had done much to inspire -- would have tamed down her uber-sex act. Nevertheless, there was Mae in all her glory, purring lines such as "I'm a good woman for a bad man" and "Cigarette me, Cossack" -- and providing a sensational eyeful adorned in this stunningly sexy ensemble. It was the creation of Paramount's legendary designer, Travis Banton, who fashioned the dress using cream-colored lace and thousands of bugle beads. Included are the spaghetti-strapped gown, matching tunic, and short jacket, all with the beautiful beads (the original white fox trim from the jacket has been removed). Goin' to Town was not the first time Mae had adorned herself in this dress -- she had worn it to the premiere of her film I'm No Angel at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in 1933. Quite awesome to behold this remarkable ensemble and realize it once draped the legendary form of the most audacious of 1930s sex stars. A spectacular example of Golden Age Hollywood at its most prodigal. Very Good - Excellent condition. Requires third party shipping.
