Description
Julie Andrews "Maria" Dress from The Sound of Music (TCF, 1965). Vintage original dirndl dress constructed of fine green and pink floral print linen with integral vest of knobby sage green wool with traditional dirndl boat collar, hook and eye and snap closure. Featuring short bell sleeves, and gathered knee-length skirt. Featuring support boning on the interior back of the bodice and custom padding for comfort of wearer. With ornamental piping at waist, bell sleeves, and tiny baby blue bows at cuffs. Features blank 20th Century Fox label. Highly visible worn by "Maria" (Andrews) in the unforgettable scene when the "Von Trapp" children sing "So Long, Farewell" and when "Captain Von Trapp" (Christopher Plummer) and "Maria" dance on the terrace, sealing their romantic fate. Designed by Academy Award winning costume designer Dorothy Jeakins. Exhibiting age, production wear, minor soiling, and light loosening of elastic components. Button front closure has been altered to be hook and eye closure. In vintage Very Good to Fine condition.
