John Wayne True Grit Costume Shirt. One of his most popular and accomplished performances, John Wayne's portrayal of one-eyed U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn in True Grit (1969) earned him both a Golden Globe and his only Academy Award for Best Actor (prompting him to state: "If I'd known this, I'd have put that eyepatch on 40 years ago."). This grey cotton twill shirt was worn by Wayne in the film, and is in Very Fine condition with some areas of mild wear and fading. A Western Costume Co. label bearing Wayne's name and the production number is sewn inside below the collar. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Luster Bayless, Wayne's costumer on numerous films.
