Description
Hattie Carnegie Gown and Don Loper Dress Worn and Owned by Edie Adams. Two exceptional designs by two legendary American designers created for the fashion connoisseur Edie Adams. The regal full length gown is from late in Hattie Carnegie's career which spanned from the 1920 into the 1960s. In pale cream satin, the gown has a strapless fitted bodice and floor length skirt that forms a short train. The bodice is richly beaded with silver bugle beads embellished with pearls and rhinestones trailing onto the skirt. At center back the zipper is overlaid with a flat bow, opening to the stayed bust and ribbon belt, the skirt is lined with a stiffener and banded at the hem in nylon netting to add body. By Don Loper, the stunning fitted calf length dress with wrap skirt hemmed at a diagonal is in cream corded lace over silver satin with three horizontal satin bands across the bodice and a satin floor length ribbon falling from the left side of each in two tones of silver front and back. The center back zipper reveals the stayed bodice and hand stitched lining also evident in the Carnegie gown. Perhaps the most regal pieces in Edie Adams' collection, both are in Very Fine condition with stain within fold at back of the Hattie Carnegie gown. Clearly fit for a princess. Accompanied by a hardcover copy of Edie Adams' autobiography, Sing a Pretty Song. From the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams Estate Archive.Auction Info
