Description

Glenn Ford's U.S. Marine Corps Uniform Cap with Naval Reserve Insignia and Marine Corps Plaques. In 1958, Ford joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and was commissioned as a lieutenant commander and designated a public affairs officer, promoting the Navy through various media. Later, Ford went to Vietnam in 1967 for a month-long tour of duty as a location scout for the training film Global Marine, traveling with a combat camera crew from the demilitarized zone south to the Mekong Delta. This olive drab uniform cap dates from that period, and was kept by Ford as a memento. Curiously, it has a Naval Reserve emblem pinned on the Marine Corps emblem printed on the front. The cap is in Very Fine condition with some wear from use and is accompanied by a b&w 8" x 10" photo of Ford in uniform, wearing the cap. Also included are his: 1st Marine Brigade Eagle, Globe, and Anchor Observer's Club membership plaque; Third Marine Amphibious Force plaque; and Fleet Marine Force plaque. In overall Very Fine condition. From the Glenn Ford Estate. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Peter Ford.
