Description

Galanos, Donald Brooks, and Sarmi Pieces, Owned by Edie Adams. A glittering lot of rhinestone encrusted designs from the 1960s, we start with a sparkling dress by Galanos in black satin embellished with clusters of flowers in rhinestones and a self covered belt with a playful ovoid buckle. The long sleeved A-line dress with standing collar and asymmetrically placed tuck to the front, has a double pleat center back concealing the zipper which opens to a taffeta lining. The next piece, by Sarmi, is a flowing floor length cream charmeuse gown, with a neck embellished with rhinestones dropping over the gathered charmeuse. Secured at the back with snaps, the back opens to a lined inner dress of textured cream satin with separate zipper. Next we present a pale yellow crepe de chine dress by Donald Brooks, is an A-line design with high collar, the front with inset of rhinestones in a diamond pattern at bust level which is cut vertically and horizontally with seams that are top stitched. The horizontal seam extends to the back, above the seam a series of three self covered buttons alternating with snaps and below a zipper which opens to a full lining. Accompanied by a hardcover copy of Edie Adams' autobiography, Sing a Pretty Song. From the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams Estate Archive.
