Four Couture Mainbocher and Galanos Gowns, Worn and Owned by Edie Adams. Of the four floor length gowns three are by the American couturier Mainbocher, the first is a gown by the American designer Galanos in pale yellow crepe de chine, a gathered bodice with straight skirt, spaghetti straps with a horizontal member lying across the deep scooped back. The bodice secured over side zipper with a series of hook & eyes opens to a fully lined interior, the bodice edged in elastic creating a fine fit. Second is a Mainbocher gown, belted design with fitted bodice, hanging sleeves and gathered skirt in a black satin weave with high scooped neck line in front and low scoop to the back. The third piece is a pale aquamarine crepe de chine crossed bodice V-backed A-line gown, that flares to the ground from the fitted torso with two 4" pleats at the back, a side zipper opens to full lining and secondary bodice lining with ribbon belt and snapped loop for securing lingerie straps at shoulder. Rounding out the lot is a pale yellow crepe de chine A-line design with a wrap skirt and bateau neck that is slightly gathered at the right shoulder and finished with a narrow belt and faux rhinestone buckle secured with hook & eye, the side zipper reveals the full lining and interior ribbon belt. The four gowns are in Fine condition with stains to the hem of the turquoise gown and the pale yellow gown has desiccated cup inserts and two breaks to the spaghetti straps that can be restored. These beautiful pieces remain as fashionable today as they were in the 1960s. Accompanied by a hardcover copy of Edie Adams' autobiography, Sing a Pretty Song.
