Clark Gable's Costume Suit. This black wool jacket has label sewn into the lining that lists the production number associated with the Clark Gable/Myrna Loy gangster classic Manhattan Melodrama (1934), as well as Gable's name handwritten in black ink. Expected to be just a modest hit, it became a runaway success that captured the public's imagination due in part to the fact that it was the movie John Dillinger saw the night he was gunned down by Federal agents (a tableau re-enacted in last summer's Public Enemies). Manhattan Melodrama was also the first of 14 movies featuring Loy and William Powell, with their popular Thin Man film series launching less than three week later. In Very Fine to Excellent condition.
