Description

Batman (TCF TV, 1966-1968), Yvonne Craig "Batgirl" Signature Cape and Cowl. Vintage original group of (2) signature ensemble components including (1) superhero cape of decoratively stitched purple satin panels lined in saffron satin with scalloped peaks at the hem and a smattering of round metallic purple sequins across the front and back, each with 1- dark purple center bead, with snap-down ring collar and snaps at the neck, back, and interior for affixing to main suit, retaining internal "20th Century Fox" bias label, and (1) custom-made and hand-sewn superhero mask constructed of two-tone light purple sateen and dark purple felt built over a stiff felt inner shell, with rigid bat ears on each side, eye covering, and integral lavender satin chin strap with hook-and-eye closure. These instantly recognizable ensemble pieces were worn by Batgirl (Yvonne Craig) aka Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon (Neil Hamilton) and the crime-fighting partner of Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) beginning in the third and final season of the beloved superhero television series. Exhibiting handling, age and wear commensurate with production-used handmade wardrobe, including toning and color fading to both items with some staining around the eye opening potentially from makeup smudging and fragility to the closure system on the cape. This ensemble has been in the collection of two major collectors of Hollywood memorabilia, John Azarian and Dr. Stewart Berkowitz. Provenance: Profiles in History, "The Azarian Collection," December 17, 2019, Lot #1072. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From The Stewart Berkowitz Television Treasures Collection.
