Description
Batman (TCF TV, 1966-1968), Frank Gorshin "Riddler" Distinctive Plaid Suit. With his idiosyncratic word puzzles and outlandish wardrobe, the Riddler (Frank Gorshin) was not known for subtlety in any form. His clothing particularly embodied the mischief, whimsy, wit, and playfulness that defined this beloved television series as a whole. Nothing less can be said of this wonderful, distinctive vintage original (2) piece wool suit, custom-made by Hollywood tailor Ernie Tarzia, constructed of a unique comic book palette of pink, blue, beige, and shades of green, with (1) jacket featuring 2- large pink fabric-covered buttons and exaggerated peak lapels, with a gaudy floral print lining and retaining internal bias label handwritten, "Frank Gorshiner" [sic] "September 1965", and (1) pair of matching pants with zipper and hook and eye closure, retaining internal bias label handwritten, "Frank Gorshiner Sept 1961" and Western Costume Co. identification stamped, "W.C.C. #8 Suit 2PC". This phenomenal wardrobe ensemble appears early in the series, in Season 1, Episode 2, "Smack in the Middle", during a sequence in which the Riddler and his accomplices from the Mole Hill Mob attempt to steal a priceless Moldavian mammoth from a museum and evade capture by Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward). Exhibiting mild production wear and handling including spots of pulled threads and gentle fraying to left lapel, otherwise presents beautifully.
