    Description

An Orson Welles Wig from the Stage Production of "Falstaff - Chimes at Midnight," 1960. Made of netting to resemble a bald head with affixed grey, curly hair; included with two false moustaches (and other tiny hair bits), three boxes of toupee tape, and a color photograph of Welles in costume; worn by the actor as he portrayed the title character in the 1960 play at The Gate Theatre in Dublin, Ireland where he acted in it as well as directed it. In an odd coincidence, The Gate Theatre was where Welles first worked on stage as a professional actor at the tender age of sixteen -- and his performance as "Falstaff" on that same stage, almost thirty years later, ended up being his last ever theatrical appearance; included with a letter from Beatrice Welles indicating she consigned this lot directly to Heritage Auctions.
