A Vivien Leigh Period Petticoat from "Gone With The Wind." Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1939. Off-white muslin, six weights at hem (so garment would hang properly on camera), back with two layers of pleats, two panels of ruffles sewn into inside lining for extra padding, numerous hook-and-eye back closures, 'Selznick Int. Pictures Inc.' label reads "Scarlett / 20-108-W.W. 492," second label reads "Scarlett - worn with blue net / pink & black Bengaline;" worn by the actress as "Scarlett O'Hara" under her gowns in two sequences: the 'lumber mill' scene where she and "Ashley Wilkes" [Leslie Howard] are caught sharing an embrace and the 'walking on Peachtree Street' scene with "Rhett Butler" [Clark Gable] and "Bonnie" -- fascinating that even an article of clothing that was not seen on screen was still exact in its period details. (Please note the petticoat has a tear at the waist and multiple minor separations along the hem.)
