Description

A Theda Bara Wig from "Salome." Fox Film Corporation, 1918. Made of real human hair, comprising a number of long, dark brown ringlet curls attached to a black string; according to legend, Bara's mother made all her hairpieces as she was a professional wig-maker by trade; this one worn by the star as she portrayed the title role in the silent film that is now sadly lost.

PROVENANCE:
This piece was one of two that originally sold in the Heritage Auctions (Dallas) auction titled "Music & Entertainment Memorabilia," Sale 696, October 4-6, 2008, Lot 49218, final price realized was $597.50; it was originally consigned by Joan Craig who, as a young girl living in 1950s Beverly Hills, was a neighbor of and friend to Theda Bara; the aging star gave Craig a number of her film costumes, including this fun piece; included with a LOP signed by Craig in 2008.
