DescriptionA Theda Bara Wig from "Salome." Fox Film Corporation, 1918. Made of real human hair, comprising a number of long, dark brown ringlet curls attached to a black string; according to legend, Bara's mother made all her hairpieces as she was a professional wig-maker by trade; this one worn by the star as she portrayed the title role in the silent film that is now sadly lost.
This piece was one of two that originally sold in the Heritage Auctions (Dallas) auction titled "Music & Entertainment Memorabilia," Sale 696, October 4-6, 2008, Lot 49218, final price realized was $597.50; it was originally consigned by Joan Craig who, as a young girl living in 1950s Beverly Hills, was a neighbor of and friend to Theda Bara; the aging star gave Craig a number of her film costumes, including this fun piece; included with a LOP signed by Craig in 2008.
