    Description

A Theda Bara Bejeweled Vest from "Cleopatra." Fox Film Corporation, 1917. Handmade of lime-green colored silk with gold-thread overlay, petal-shaped cut-outs throughout with mesh lining beneath (to simulate nudity), entire surface adorned with hundreds of faux pearls, further dangling faux pearls on lower trim; worn by the star as she portrayed the title character in the silent film that is sadly on AFI's 'Lost Films' list; additional trivia about the film found on IMDb.com notes that it "contains the largest number of costume changes by one performer (50) in any silent film. Coincidentally, the largest number of costume changes by a single performer in any film ever was Elizabeth Taylor's 65 in the 1963 version of 'Cleopatra.'" (Please note the vest is in very fragile condition now with some 'pearls' missing as it's almost 100 years old.)
