Description

A Pair of Boxing Trunks from "Rocky IV." Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer/United Artists, 1985. Satin, red and white stripes, blue waistband and trim, added silver appliqué stars on trim, purposely distressed with faux blood throughout; worn by Stallone as "Rocky Balboa" later on in the match against "Drago" [Dolph Lundgren]. (Please note the trunks are now faded due to use and age and there is a small hole on the back right leg.)

"These trunks are one of the most symbolic artifacts of the entire Rocky legacy. They carry on the spirit of Apollo Creed who died in Rocky's arms so Rocky picks up the colors to honor his fallen friend. The symbolism of these trunks mean a great deal to me, especially in Rocky IV when he fights Dolph Lundgren in what I consider the most physical movie fighting I've ever been involved with. I will go on record as saying this was, by far, the most physical fight of all. Dolph Lundgren was incredibly strong and he actually put me in the hospital for four days during this fight. It was at least six months of grueling rehearsal and many, many injuries. These trunks saw a lot of mileage during that fight and when I see the film now, I can't believe we actually went through what we went through. But, these are the trunks I wore when I defeated the Russian giant - that will always be one of the highlights of my film life."
