DescriptionA Michael York Coat from "Murder on the Orient Express." Paramount, 1974. Designed by Tony Walton who also designed the whole film production, made of camel hair, double breasted, peaked lapels, two frontal pockets, kick pleat in back, lined in black and peach-colored paisley print satin, inside breast pocket label reads in part "Bermans & Nathans / Michael York / 6504 / Count Andreyni [sic] 1 / Orient Express;" worn by the actor as he portrayed "Count Andrenyi" in the multiple-Academy Award nominated film that boasted a stellar cast including Ingrid Bergman (who won a 'Best Actress in a Supporting Role' Oscar for her portrayal of "Greta"), Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam, Jacqueline Bisset, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Vanessa Redgrave, and Richard Widmark, among many others; included with a letter from Mr. York stating he consigned this lot directly to Heritage Auctions.
Mr. York relays a story about this lot: "At the end of filming "Murder on the Orient Express," this coat was returned to Wardrobe and I didn't see it again until it turned up by chance - or fate? - a decade later as part of my costume on a 1983 film I was making in Canada called "For Those I Loved." This time I determined we were not to be parted again and I purchased it from the production at the end of filming. I also wore it in the 2001 AMC television series, "The Lot" where I portrayed a 1930s flamboyant British movie star named "Colin Rhome" and I swear that wearing this coat was solely responsible for earning me an Emmy nomination [for 'Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series']!"
