Description

A Marlon Brando Costume from "The Ugly American." Universal International, 1963. A three-piece ensemble including: a charcoal gray tailcoat, one button front closure, one frontal welt pocket, designer label reads "H. Harris / 13 W. 57th St. / New York / Mr. Marlon Brando / Date 7-18-61;" a pair of gray and black striped wool trousers; a pearl gray wool vest, six button front closure, four frontal welt pockets, back made of gray satin with an attached waist belt, sweat stains evident in armpit area; and a pair of crème-colored suspenders; worn by the actor as he portrayed "Ambassador Harrison Carter MacWhite" in the scene when he meets "Prime Minister Kwen Sai" [played by real life politician Kukrit Pramoj] and then when he comes home for a martini. (Please note the pants appear to have been slightly altered, possibly due to Brando's constantly fluctuating weight.)
