    A John Wayne Pair of Coveralls from "Hellfighters." Universal, 1968. Made of red cotton, two front zip pockets, two side pockets, zip-up front, two back pockets, short sleeves, label has handwritten annotation reading "JW / 42," purposely dirtied and distressed for use; worn by the actor as he portrayed "Chance Buckman" throughout the action film that co-starred Katharine Ross, Jim Hutton, and Vera Miles. (Please note the sleeves were shortened for a later use and the patch reading "Chance" has been removed.)


    Chance Buckman (John Wayne)

    This jumpsuit was worn by the character "Chance Buckman," portrayed by legendary actor John Wayne in the 1968 motion picture, "Hellfighters". The red firefighter jumpsuit has the original costumer's tag sewn inside with the actor's initials "J.W." clearly written. The sleeves were shortened for use in a subsequent production and the garment has faint sitchines of the original patch still visible on the back.

    Mr. Wayne appears wearing the jumpsuit in numerous scenes throughout the film while working to battles the flames. "Hellfighters" follows the story of Chance and his group of firefighters as they work to douse flames near oil wells caused from industrial accidents, explosions and terrorists. The garment is in good screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
