A Joel Grey Robe from "Cabaret." Allied Artists, 1972. Traditional Asian-style robe, black silk with a pale orange, blue, and green floral pattern on back, shoulders, and sleeves; large, rectangular-shaped dropped/dolman-type sleeves; worn by the star as "The Master of Ceremonies" in the film co-starring Liza Minnelli and Michael York -- the role that won him an Academy Award for 'Best Actor in a Supporting Role;' seen in the brief cutaway shot where Grey wryly nods and smiles right after the blonde Nazi youth sings 'Tomorrow Belongs to Me;' included with an oversized black and white photograph showing Grey wearing the robe in a deleted scene from the film, signed by him in silver paint pen ink on the lower left margin "Joel / Grey;" further included with a letter typed on personalized stationery and signed in black felt-tip ink by the actor reading in part "the costume / designer found a great old silk antique robe for that one shot (where) I wore (this);" consigned directly to this auction by Mr. Grey himself! (Please note the photograph is creased.)
