A Jack Nicholson Period Jacket from "Chinatown." Paramount, 1974. Made of wool in a grayish-blue and peach-colored plaid, single-breasted, two button front closure, three large frontal pockets, back has unique pleat and attached self-belt, lined in teal-colored satin, Western Costume Co. label reads "No. 2435-I / Jack Nicholson / Chest 41 1/2 / Sleeve 16 1/2;" worn by the star as he portrayed "J.J. Gittes," the role that garnered him an Academy Award nomination for 'Best Actor in a Leading Role,' though he had stiff competition that year -- Albert Finney for "Murder on the Orient Express," Dustin Hoffman for "Lenny," Al Pacino for "The Godfather: Part II," and finally Art Carney who won for "Harry and Tonto." (Please note the front of this jacket was considerably altered for a later use: the lapels were narrowed, a front closure button was removed, frontal pockets were added, and the sleeves were shortened, but the "bones" of it are still intact -- and the back still looks the same as when Nicholson wore it.)
